God Speaks To Me
~ Terry Henning, 2007

In the quiet of silence,
God speaks to me.
In those wondrous moments of serenity,
I finally hear his voice.

I'm sure He's present otherwise,
but I am too distracted to listen.
Then the moment arrives when He beseeches me,
to approach as a child and sit on His knee.

He embraces me,
and admires His creation.
All my secrets He reveals,
yet assures me, I am cherished still.

So battle your demons,
but never question my love for you.
Whenever needed, I will be there
to unconditionally love you.

Symbol of the Cross

(An Easter Poem)

~ Terry Henning

Jesus bent and staggered under the weight of His load

for all our sins, His burden, as was foretold.

Up the hill He struggled, in anguish and pain

yet His love of even his accusers, He did maintain

His life on earth coming to an end,

as His beaten and battered body up the hill did ascend,

the ultimate sacrifice our loving Savior did make

as He knew the salvation of man was at stake.

All of God’s angels on High

Cried and prayed as they watched Jesus suffer and die.

Their God of love with suffering and pain

held steadfast, His mission to sustain.

The Lord above rained down His tears, and lightning flashed,

as He watched His only Son still in anguish from the lash.

His Son as God made man was leaving here

to return to God the Father, and transcend all His human fear.

The cross with its three points to bear

the weight of Jesus who was hanging there.

With His last breath, commending His Spirit to the Father above,

to join Him in Heaven as an act of total love.

Of His own choice and free will He accepted death.

Resisting all temptation, made salvation available with His last breath.

The heavenly choir of angels burst into song,

singing His praises among the throng.

How do we ever fully appreciate this miraculous gift?

The ultimate sacrifice that you made so as to lift

the burden of sin, which we carry within.

As He is raised into Heaven, we are privileged to be joined with Him.
